A low sun and patches of melting snow created a lace-like pattern on the shell. With warming temperatures today, it becomes less likely to be able to incorporate beach snow into photographs.
And I am OK with that!

Feather, Fragment, and Magnifying Seaweed
All three pieces are beaten by the waves, but almost made more beautiful in their form and composition. The magnifying seaweed was a surprise when I downloaded the photos from my camera.
Like Broken Porcelain
The colors and shapes of these shell pieces are evocative of antique porcelain dishes, lost at sea and washed in with the tide.
And the Blowing Sand Gathers
This eroded shell fragment has gathered the blowing sand in several of its striations. The varying textures are particularly captivating.
Still life with Snow Pebble and the Tide’s Signature
When the high tide hits the snow it creates lovely little ice pebbles that are tossed around with the retreating waves. This one positioned itself in a very ‘zen’ manner.
A Snowy Beach Walk
There are wonderful images to be captured where the high tide meets a snowy, frigid beach. The sea water partially melts the snow, which quickly refreezes in fantastical patterns and shapes. The wild water also crushes anything it has in its waves as it hits the hard ice,
I thought I would include a photo of one of my favorite “go-to” beaches for walking the tide line. For the three months of summer it is filled with a busy, vibrant buzz of noise and color. During the remainder of the year, though, it is a wonderful place for personal solitude and quiet beach walks.
While I anxiously await spring, it has been lovely on the beach in winter.
Highlighted/er
Like a quill pen highlighter, this feather highlighted my tideline stroll. I like how it is positioned just below the clam vent, as if the hole is the ink pot. I have not figured out what type of bird it came from.
Mesa
Perhaps it is because of a recent trip to New Mexico that I find this still life with a bit of driftwood evocative of a distant mesa.
Snow Above the Horizon
Snow today, again. It is the 17th accumulating snowfall in the state this winter – really quite incredible for our region.
It is too bitter cold and blowing to go walk the tide line today; this photo was taken after one of the previous storms. Spring sure is taking its time this year!
A Child’s Landscape Drawing
A tree, stars, and falling leaves. Much like a simple child’s drawing, but drawn by nature along the tide line.
