Another shadow still life.
When I was very young, I memorized the following poem. My aunt taught it to me to accompany a lovely sculpture entitled ‘Song’ that was once in the Hirshhorn Museum Sculpture Garden in Washington. Unfortunately I no longer remember the artist’s name. So very often something I see reminds me of the poem, and as soon as I noticed this still life the words came to me again.
There are so many thoughts I could share about the value of memorizing poetry!
Singing Time
by Rose Fyleman
I wake in the morning early
And always, the very first thing,
I poke out my head and I sit up in bed
And I sing and I sing and I sing.
Beautiful! Aunt Patsy?
One of my first memorized poems:
The one L lama, he’s a priest.
The two L llama, he’s a beast.
And I will bet a silk pajama,
There isn’t any three L lllamas!
Had to be preschool or kindergarten!!
But all these years later…..
Yes, Patsy! And yes, I remember the llama poem, too!
