Still lifes are historically constructed from man-made objects, or items that are no longer living. This arrangement of a well-worn shell fragment, a sand crab carapace, a tiny twig, and a dead fly is perfect. The breathing-hole evidence of mollusks deep beneath the sand adds interest. The bubbles from a quickly retreating wave are what really makes this lovely.
