Martinique Beach Provincial Park, Nova Scotia
Martinique Beach is a 5 kilometer expanse of lovely sand beach, surrounded by areas of protected dunes. It sits at the end of a seemingly endless 12 kilometer road, but is very much worth the drive. The dunes are protected, with 8 access points much like the one below. We arrived early on a misty morning; the air was cooler than the water (warmer than ours at the Jersey shore because of its closer proximity to the Gulf Stream), so the beach was full of mist, and the light was luminous. Absolutely magic. There were still lifes aplenty, which I will be sharing over the upcoming weeks.
I will return there, hopefully!

The Beach Inside
There is something about the humble mussel shell that captivates me. Those who have followed Tide Line Still Life for a while know that I frequently post photos that include mussels. They are ordinary, in (over) abundance, dull in color, and unremarkable in form. This simple, unremarkable shell, though, often clusters in fascinating arrangements. And in the early morning sun they sometimes reveal the most remarkable interiors.
All is not what it appears to be on the outside; there is a hidden beauty within.

Hook and Eye
The summer of 2014 is officially here with the start of Memorial Day weekend (here in the US). Have picnics and barbecues, and enjoy the outdoors – beach, mountain, lake, park, and backyard. Most of all, make memories with family and friends this season. The memories that are made, and the stories that retell them, serve as a glue that can bind hearts and generations.
Oh, and remember to look for the little treasures that may be at your feet.
