Flown In

This bit of golden beauty seems to have flown right in and dropped at my feet. This was very much the effect, because the sun peeked from behind morning clouds just as the the gold caught my eye, creating the wings. Magical!

The title also refers to the fact that I have flown back home. Although the time away was spent mostly sitting beside a coal fire on a farm, sharing stories and time with family, I did get to two lovely bits of Northumberland coastline. Photos forthcoming … although most of my time walking the tideline there was spent simply resting my spirit.

Time spent with family is the best time on earth.

Star Light

The starfish looked quite ‘gone’ when we found it high on the tide line. It seemed such a shame since it seemed to be working so hard on a new arm! Juxtapositioned beside the almost iridescent, weathered black shell fragment, it was a lovely study in textures. After photographing it, I picked it up to discover it was still alive. It was returned to the sea, where
I hope it is still growing the new appendage.

A note: The week ahead will not have many new posts. I will be traveling and will probably have little or no access to the internet. If the weather cooperates and I can manage transportation, though, I may be visiting a favorite seaside!

The Sea’s Autobiography

There is something about this still life that speaks. It tells a story. Perhaps it is a sentence written in the sea’s kanji, or in a heretofore unknown abugida. It is the sea’s autobiography, in the sea’s own written words, left as a mystery for me to ponder.
